Fire at apartment building in Elkin displaces 'several families': Fire department

Firefighters fight a blaze at an apartment building in Elkin early Saturday morning.

ELKIN, N.C. — A fire at an apartment building in Elkin on early Saturday morning displaced "several families," according to the State Road Volunteer Fire Department.

State Road said in a Facebook post that it was dispatched to the fire on Klondike Road around 4:25 a.m. while assisting Austin Volunteer Fire & Rescue in a separate structure fire.

According to State Road, the displaced families are being assisted by the Red Cross. Thankfully no one was hurt by the blaze.

Many area volunteer fire departments helped State Road fight the fire, including Mountain Park, Jot Um Down, CC Camp, Pleasant Hill and Ronda.
