ISSAQUAH, Wash. — How does the Super Bowl game ball get to the field? Well, at least one of them, the ceremonial ball, will be delivered by FedEx. Really.
For the first time, a FedEx courier is going to deliver the ball on the field, of course in a FedEx box.
The courier delivering the ball has been working for the company for 10 years and he's from Washington state.
“They said you're going to be delivering the game day ball, I was like really? This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity so I'm super excited. They're asking me to go to Vegas and take this ball onto the field it's like that's cool, I'm just a simple little courier here but alright,” said Zach Borland, FedEx courier.
Did FedEx pull a name out of a hat? No. they used customer satisfaction ratings to figure out. FedEx set up an online ratings system for customers to pick the best courier.
“It's absolutely the people on his route we had no part, other than setting up the feature, we had no part in his selection, it's solely based on his performance reviews that his customers provided,” said Chris Collette, FedEx manager.
You can see FedEx deliver the ball to the field right here on WFMY News 2. The Super Bowl kicks off at 6:30 pm. Of course, pre-game coverage starts much earlier in the day.
