GRAHAM, N.C. — A woman is dead after getting into a head-on collision with a truck on Monday, Jan. 29, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Sheila Ranay Steele, 68, was driving south on NC 87 in an SUV while Mitchell Clayton Fowler, 43, was driving north in a truck.
Troopers said Steele crossed the centerline and struck Fowler head-on.
Steele died on the scene.
Fowler and his front seat passenger, Latasha Michelle Haith, 43, were seriously injured in the crash, troopers said. Both were taken to a local hospital for their injuries.
Troopers have not determined what caused Steele to cross the centerline, but neither speed nor impairment is believed to be a contributing factor.
