Family Fights Home Invasion Suspect Until Police Arrive

"I feel like we did what we had to do to protect my home. My mother stays under this roof, so that is the most important thing," said Tyrek Enoch who lives at the home.

BURLINGTON, N.C. -- — Face to face with a home break in suspect, investigators say a Burlington family caught the criminal in the act.

They fought back against the suspect until police arrived.

"I feel like we did what we had to do to protect my home. My mother stays under this roof, so that is the most important thing," said Tyrek Enoch who lives at the home.

He didn't expect to see someone near his Burlington house when he and his cousin got home late Friday night.

"I looked in the basket and seen all my stuff, so I automatically knew he was trying to steal something. So me an my cousin… handled it pretty well. A little force with it," Enoch chuckled.

He says 45 year old Dennis Johnson had Enoch's own laundry basket with Enoch's Television, and several other valuables in it. So, Enoch and his cousin did what they had to do.

"Once I hit him he went to sleep, and my cousin did the rest," said Enoch.

With the suspect knocked unconscious, Enoch's cousin dragged Johnson to the curb and the two waited for the police to arrive.

"I stay here, and I'm not going to let somebody come in here and take something freely," said Enoch.

Enoch says he's just happy his mother wasn't home when it all happened.

"Thank god she wasn't. She wasn't. We were actually planning on making another stop before we came here, and we were like forget it. Honestly if we weren't here for like five minutes he would have been gone," said Enoch.

Johnson has been charged with Felony breaking and entering, Resist Delay and Obstructing an officer, and possession of Drug paraphernalia. While at the hospital being treated, Johnson became disruptive and was charged with 2 additional counts of Disorderly Conduct as well as another count of Resist, Delay and Obstruct an officer and was given an additional $5000 secured bond. He is currently in custody at the Alamance County Jail.
