Escaped inmate from New Jersey arrested in Randolph County after traffic stop turns into chase

James Bradley, 24, the passenger in the vehicle, got out and ran from police on foot.

RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man after he fled from police during a traffic stop on I-85 in Randolph County that turned into a chase into Davidson County on Sept. 9.

The Davidson County Sheriff's Office said the driver, 26-year-old Olrick Robinson, got off the highway at the Lexington exit.

He and his passenger, 24-year-old James Bradley made their way over to Turner road going over 100 miles per hour.

The car overcorrected at one point, and ended up flying through many neighbors yards nearly missing structures, cars, and homes.

"There were pieces of his car everywhere. He caught her stump, and she had just oil and all kinds of stuff all through her yard," explained Emily McKinney.

Morgan Vaughan also had the chase come through her front yard.

She said, "we were scared so we're glad it wasn't worse than it was."

The suspects then turned onto Holly Grove road before breaking down.

Bradley got out of the car and ran from police on foot. A short foot chase followed where Bradley was arrested. Further investigation from police revealed Bradley was an escaped inmate from New Jersey.

He escaped from a Residential Community Release Program.

Bradley was serving time for aggravated assault, and unlawful possession of guns with an expected release date of next May.

The Davidson County Sheriff's Office said this arrest was huge for all agencies involved.

"We wanna be a part of a bigger solution and when agencies are working together that is exactly what we do, we become a bigger force," said Sheriff Richie Simmons.

Detective Monty Wolfe explained, "We need to help each other prevent the crime from occurring. If something's happened in Davidson County, Randolph County needs to know about it, other counties need to know about it, that way we can network and stop crime."

Bradley was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center and received no bond. He is awaiting extradition on the Fugitive Order and appeared in the Randolph County District Court on Sept. 10.

Police said the driver of the vehicle was driving erratically and struck another vehicle in its path while they attempted to conduct the traffic stop.

Robinson was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center and charged with Felony Flee/Elude Arrest with Motor Vehicle, Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana, Driving While License Revoked, Speeding in Excess of 65 miles per hour, and Improper Passing on Right. Robinson received a $10,000 bond and has a first court appearance scheduled for Sept. 16 at the Randolph County District Court.

This is an ongoing story.
