Eden residents say they are 'resilient,' after multi-structure fire

The Eden Fire Department said the fire jumped the road burning down a home, and damaging two other structures

EDEN, N.C. — On Thursday, we got a first-hand look at the damage left by a multi-structure fire in Eden.

Building damage, charred grass, and a home completely gone.

Residents around the city said no matter what happens in their community, they will be there for one another, and move forward.

Eden Fire Chief Chris White said one of their fire station crews was heading to another call just before 4 p.m. Wednesday when they noticed a home on fire.

The scene was so chaotic that all units were diverted to the fire on Morgan Street.

White said they shut part of the road down and found three brush fires and three structure fires all burning at the same time.

"It’s like a constructed mess, but it’s an organized constructed mess," said White. "You got lines coming off of different trucks."

The fires were near businesses in the Eden community, like Stella’s Pizza.

Ashley Carter works near where the fire happened.

She said the community around Eden is resilient, and will always stand behind those who may be impacted by incidents like this.

"I really think that Eden, and the Stoneville area community is just so wonderful, and everyone just comes together to help everybody out," Carter said.

Eden Fire Deputy Chief, James Slaughter said, "I'd have to say that our community is superb. When something happens catastrophically, whether it be structure fire, whether it be weather-related, the neighboring people in this community, they do everything they can."

The home Mary Hall purchased completely burned down.

"This house we bought it probably 10 years ago," Hall said. "We were going to do remodeling to try and fix it up but the debris caught it on fire."

Hall said she planned to tear the home down. She’s just happy no one was hurt.

“That was the big thing. That no one got hurt," Hall said. "That no one lost a family member.”

It took six Eden fire crews to put all the fires out. They are still looking into what exactly caused the fires.
