'It was scary. You could hear a loud noise' | Three structures catch fire in Eden near Stella's Pizza

The Eden Fire Department says the fire jumped the road burning down a home and damaging two other structures

EDEN, N.C. — A viewer captured the flames towing over a building off Morgan Street in Eden.

The cracks and pops as the flames got more powerful in the wind could be heard by Brenda Finney. She said she was picking up food when she heard a popping sound.

“And I said something is on fire. It was black smoke coming up in the air with the wind blowing," Finney said. "The fires swept across and caught this house on fire and the middle  house and this house over here on fire.”

Eden Fire Chief Chris White said one of their fire station crews was heading to another call just before 4 p.m. Wednesday when they noticed a home on fire.

The scene was so chaotic they had all units divert to the fire on Morgan Street.

White said they shut part of the road down and found three brush fires and three structure fires all burning at the same time.

"It’s like a constructed mess but it’s an organized constructed mess," said White. "You got lines coming off of different trucks."

The fires were near businesses in the Eden community like Stella’s Pizza.

"I’m the delivery man for Stella Pizza. I was sitting over there I heard some noise come out and it was a big fire over there and it was very windy,"  said Stella's Pizza delivery driver Sadek Morcos. "It was scary because all you hear is a loud noise and a big flame. You could feel the fire."

The home Mary Hall purchased looks to have the most damage.

"This house we bought it probably 10 years ago," Hall said. "We were going to do remodeling to try and fix it up but the debris caught it on fire."

Hall said she plans to tear the home down. She’s just happy no one was hurt.

“That was the big thing. That no one got hurt," Hall said. "That no one lost a family member.”

It took six Eden fire crews to put all the fires out. They are still looking into what exactly caused the fires.
