RAMSEUR, N.C. — A Randolph County teen has been discharged from the hospital after being involved in a crash that left her with serious injuries.

On Aug. 22, 16-year-old Macie Maness and three more of her friends were in the car. Troopers said the 17-year-old male driver ran off the road, overcorrected, and crashed into a tree.

Troopers said a 15-year-old male passenger died at the scene, and the 17-year-old driver was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Macie and another teen girl also went to area hospitals. The 17-year old ultimately died from his injuries.

At this time, troopers have not released the names of the teens -- but school officials have confirmed they all went to Eastern Randolph High School.

Macie's stepmom, Amanda Maness, reached out to WFMY News 2 and shared that her daughter had several injuries from the crash, including spinal fractures and broken ribs. She said they were shocked when they received the phone call that their daughter had been involved in such a horrific crash.

Amanda told us Macie, a junior at Eastern Randolph High, underwent surgery on Friday, Aug. 23 where doctors planned to put a metal bar in her back. She was in the hospital for a few days before she was discharged on Monday, Aug. 27.

Amanda said they haven't slept since getting the phone call every parent dreads, but they are grateful their daughter is alive.
