FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — A person has died in a crash involving a stolen car in Forsyth County, deputies say.
Deputies said they got an alert from the Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) system of a stolen license plate in the area of Country Club Road and Meadowlark Drive just before 1 p.m. Thursday.
A deputy let communications and other deputies in the area about the white Jeep Wrangler that was on Shallowford Road toward Lewisville.
Another deputy noticed the Jeep around 12:55 p.m. and tried to stop it. The suspect car sped away from the deputy on Lewisville-Vienna Road.
Just a minute later, the driver lost control and hit a tree in the 600 block of Lewisville-Vienna Road, coming to a stop in front of a home.
EMS responded to the scene where the driver was pronounced dead. No one else was inside the car.
The license plate and car had been reported stolen to the Chesapeake, Virginia Police Department on Nov. 21.
This investigation is ongoing as the Highway Patrol works to identify the driver.
