During his Monday court appearance Serna, who doesn't speak English, saidt through his interpreter he wasn't trying to leave the scene. He said he stopped further down from the accident because his brakes failed after impact and he couldn't immediately stop.
Serna also questioned his arrest, because according to him there were no Spanish speaking officers on scene during the investigation and his arrest.
The judge left his bond at $100,00.00.
Tuesday afternoon NCSHP announced it has charged Serna with an additional count of Misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle in the death of 51-year-old Kenneth Jefferson who died Sunday.
