Dog Found Abandoned in Locked Donation Box in NC

"At this time, she appears to be in good condition but is being monitored for heat stress," animal control officers said in a news release.
The dog was found late Friday morning after someone called to tip off authorities about the animal, officials said.

SPRING LAKE, N.C. (WNCN) - Authorities in Cumberland County said Friday someone dumped a live dog into a lock unmanned donation box outside a shopping center.

The dog, a female tan and white pit bull, was discovered Friday at the Cedarwood Shopping Plaza, located at 105 Lillington Highway in Spring Lake, according to Cumberland County Animal Control.

The dog was found late Friday morning after someone called to tip off authorities about the animal, officials said.

Photos showed the dog inside the box on top of wire coat hangers, clothing and plastic bags of donated items.

Spring Lake police were forced to cut the lock off the donation box to retrieve the dog, which was "responsive but dehydrated," the news release said.

The dog was wearing a flea collar and a blue collar with bone shapes on it.

"At this time, she appears to be in good condition but is being monitored for heat stress," the news release said.
