Winston-Salem, N.C. – Hurricane Florence threatened to put a damper on the Dixie Classic Fair this year.
In order to get the 60 plus rides to the fairgrounds, they are brought by train. The company in charge of the rides says that part of the track in Danville, Virginia was damaged due to Florence's floodwaters.
"Which means we would have had to have gone back to Danville unload everything and truck everything over here like magically in a day. But the good news is that the train is going to arrive and they've repaired the tracks," George Weston, General Manager of the Strates Shows said.
The majority of the rides are expected to arrive,Tuesday morning. Strates Shows, the company in charge of the rides, was proactive this year.
Due to Hurricane Florence's forecasted rain, the company sent a number of rides to the fairground early.
All of the rides will be ready for opening day, on Friday.
Before then, they'll be inspected, by both Strates Shows safety personnel and also the State.
This year you can expect, five new rides, a three-story fun house, some new eats, and lots of lights.
"In years pas,t you'll come to the fair and it's bright and it's lit up and there's fabulous food and fun attractions, but take that experience and add like 100 volts of electricity to it. So all the rides have new LED light package," Siobhan Olson, a fair spokesperson said.
The Dixie Classic Fair says says the lights will also be programed to go along with the music.
Another new thing this year is giving you more opportunities to save money on food, ride tickets and even get free prizes.
The fair is using something called beacon technology. You'll have download the fair's app called the Dixie Classic Fair App. As you walk around the fair grounds, the app will beam coupons to your phone based on your location.
If you want to save even more, buy advanced tickets online through Ticketmaster or the fair's website.
You only have until 11:59 Thursday night to do that.
