Did you get this message? | Duke Energy sends warning to customers about energy use

Duke Energy said there is no imminent threat to the grid.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Viewers were concerned about a message they received from Duke Energy Thursday night asking them to conserve their power usage for Friday.

WFMY News 2 reached out to Duke Energy and they said the notification was not intended to cause panic but to help educate their customers.

A Duke Energy spokesperson released this statement:

This notification is part of an educational program to help customers be aware of their energy use on days when there is higher than usual demand for electricity. The goal is to help them be as mindful as possible of their energy usage on cold days.

There is no imminent threat to the grid but we will be doing our part during cold weather to help manage energy across the grid, and hope our customers will also engage with us to do the same.
