GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro police said a juvenile has died after a shooting at a Waffle House. GPD said they could not share the specific age of this person.
They have a suspect in custody, who's also a minor. The shooting happened Tuesday night on Randleman Road.
WFMY News 2's Nixon Norman heard from people disappointed and frustrated about crime in the area.
Two young women, Chelsea Hall and Dezjione Justice, have worked right next door to the Randleman Road Waffle House for years.
While they both hate to hear another young person was killed so close to where they work, they said they're not surprised.
Hall said she's worked at Stephanie's Restaurant on Randleman Road her entire life, it's a restaurant her parents own.
Although Stephanie's was closed the night the shooting took place, she said she's disturbed that someone was killed so close to a place she's called home all these years.
"It's very scary, because it's like... this is right next door, what would have happened if we would have been open?" Hall said.
Justice also works at Stephanie's. She said before she had heard the news, she planned on grabbing breakfast at Waffle House Wednesday before clocking in.
"We've been getting questions all day, are they open? Are they closed? And we honestly couldn't tell due to the fact that the business is just so empty," Justice said.
When she pulled into work, she said the entrance way to Waffle House had been blocked off and people were working to repair broken windows on the building.
"I pretty much saw them trying to get the building back in order," Justice said.
Both women said the news is all that much worse to hear because the person who lost their life is so young.
"It's getting out of hand honestly. It's unfortunate that somebody has to lose their life when they're just at a restaurant, you know?" Justice said.
"On this side of town, honestly, it's frequent. It's not a shock at all to hear someone got shot or something happening. This side of town in general is very noisy, let me put it that way. It's not a quiet side of town," Justice said.
It's an issue they said has no real end in sight, "we were literally just talking about that… I don't know the answer to that, I don't… I don't know," Hall said.
The Waffle House on Randleman Road is set to open back up Thursday morning according to a sign on their door posted Wednesday night.
WFMY News 2 has reached out to Waffle House at the corporate level by phone calls and text, we have yet to hear back.
