Davidson County officials share details on burnout ring investigation after three cars seized

Sheriff Richie Simmons will hold a news conference Friday to provide an update on the investigation.

DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — Davidson County Sheriff Richie Simmons held a press conference Friday to provide details on the investigation relating to the cars that were involved in a burnout that happened in June.

The sheriff's office says it seized several properties and cars related to the burnout ring.

A task force has started in the piedmont between all law enforcement agencies to stop these takeovers.

Agencies included:

  • Alamance County
  • Forsyth County
  • Guilford County
  • Highway Patrol
  • Thomasville Police
  • Lexington Police

Investigators say the cars are worth more than $250K.

Sheriff Simmons reached out to Davidson County legislators.

Senate Bill 91 has a portion of it devoted to street takeovers at several law enforcement officials and it is now general stature 141.10.

Sheriff Simmons said that no more takeovers have come to Davidson County, but that one is supposed to tonight. State Sheriff's departments are ready.

The videos that the groups post on social media are a major resource for the detectives to identify people and cars.

Two groups identified are 'Tre4meetz' and 'Underground Auto'.

Three cars have been seized: one from Charlotte, one from Forsyth County and one from Greensboro.

All cars taken from the people are all registered to, none are stolen. Gun magazines and ammunition were found inside the cars.

A ski mask with the logo for 'Tre4meetz' Instagram logo on it was also found inside one of the cars.

Detectives believe one of the cars belongs to a ringleader, who is looking at heavy prosecution.

The car seized from Greensboro also had an illegal shutter that covered the license plate.

$70K in property damage done from the Davidson Takeover will be applied to the three car owners, according to Sheriff Simmons.

The sheriff's office says it quickly responded and broke the group up. It hasn't said if anyone faces charges but as this story develops, we will keep you updated on the latest from today's news conference.

This investigation will continue, and more cars will be seized if necessary.
