Popular Asheboro restaurant making repairs after car crashes into building

David's Restaurant says it has to shut down Wednesday after someone crashed into their building.

ASHEBORO, N.C. — A popular restaurant was forced to close their doors Tuesday afternoon and all-day Wednesday after someone drove into their building.

David's Restaurant in Asheboro had to shut down after someone crashed into the building Tuesday afternoon.

The police report says the driver mistakenly hit the gas pedal instead of the brake.

Manager Maria Garcia ran to the front of the restaurant when she heard the cashier screaming her name. That's where she saw the damage to the building.

"I was scared at first, then I was kind of sad because I was just imagining that someone was walking out like literally 10 minutes ago - one of the girls that was working here was cleaning the windows," Garcia recalled.

Garcia said she thought about the worst-case scenario, but thankfully, that was avoided. Partially, because they weren't as busy as normal Tuesday afternoon.

"We did have people inside, but not many people - like walking inside and going out and all of that, so I think that was a blessing," Garcia exclaimed.

Garcia explained they had to get an inspection and obtain a permit before reopening. At last check, Garcia said they will be able to open on Thursday at normal time.
