GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro police said an officer fatally shot a man who ignored commands to drop a knife on Wednesday.
GPD said officers were dispatched to a home on Crestridge Road shortly after 8 a.m. in reference to a threatening suicide call.
Police said an officer encountered a man, identified as 28-year-old Titus Kopp, who was armed with a knife. According to a release, the officer gave a command to drop the knife, but Kopp ignored the officer and advanced toward them with the knife still in hand. GPD said the officer shot Kopp, called EMS, and rendered aid.
Police said Kopp was taken a local hospital where he later died.
According to court records, Kopp was arrested by High Point Police on Monday and charged with misdemeanor larceny. He posted bond on Tuesday.
Records show the offense took place back in 2023 and he had a warrant out for his arrest.
The SBI is now investigating, which is standard protocol in officer-involved shootings.
