MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — Several theaters within Creekside Cinemas are closed until further notice due to concerns around air quality and air temperature, Mount Airy police report.
Police said Mount Airy Code Enforcement, Surry County Building Inspections and Surry County Health Department all received complaints and photo evidence of the property.
The property was inspected and received Air Temperature and Air Quality violations, according to police.
Creekside Cinemas responded to the situation with a statement on their Facebook page.
The movie theater said the concerns were from a "gossip post on Facebook about our lack of cleanliness, our "moldy" seats, and lack of care and concern."
The theater claimed the pictures from the theater being circulated were from several years prior as they were reopening from the COVID-19 pandemic.
"However, as a sign of good-faith, we are voluntarily shutting off most of our other auditoriums and taking advantage of the lull in new movies so that we can deep clean these spaces too, and to perform a few badly needed maintenance projects- such as repairing some of the HVAC," wrote the theater.
The movie theater has been given two weeks to rectify the situation before it is re-inspected, police said.
