THOMASVILLE, N.C. — A crash occurred at  NC Highway 109 south of Commercial Park Drive  in Thomasville around 10:25 a.m. Thursday.

Thomasville police said a Ford Fiesta, driven by Stanely Mitchel, 65, of Thomasville, was traveling south on NC 109 when he attempted to pass four other vehicles in a no-passing zone.

Mitchel attempted to return to his lane of travel, and struck the front driver's side of a Subaru, traveling north on NC 109, then side-swiped a Toyota Corolla, traveling south on NC 109. The collision between Mitchel's vehicle and the Subaru, caused a head-on collision with a Nissan Armada, traveling south. First responders arrived to find the Subaru on fire.

Officers said the driver of the Subaru, Angela Grubb, 54, of Denton, and the passenger, Kevin Noe, 45, of Denton were  both seriously injured and taken to a hospital.

The driver of the Nissan Armada, Dalton Gilmore, 24, of Thomasville had minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. The driver of the Toyota Corolla, Aster Rider, 72, of Lexington was uninjured. Mitchel was also uninjured.

Police and crews were at the scene, and the road was closed. The road has now reopened.

The crash is still under investigation and the Thomasville Traffic Safety unit is working with the Davidson County Attorney's Office regarding criminal charges.
