ASHEBORO, N.C. — A man is dead after a car crash in Randolph County on Tuesday, June 11, according to the NC State Highway Patrol.
Fernando Avalos Lopez, 49, was driving north on Loflin Pond Road attempting to make a left turn onto Foxworth Road, troopers said.
Jeffrey Eugene Allen, 49, was stopped at the stop sign on Foxworth Road.
Troopers said Lopez was driving under the influence and speeding. He turned too quickly, causing him to strike Allen head-on, according to troopers.
Allen died on the scene. Lopez suffered minor injuries.
Lopez was arrested and charged with felony death by motor vehicle, driving while impaired, careless and reckless driving, and operating a vehicle without a driver’s license.
He is being held under a $1 million bond.
