Pedestrian dead after crash on I-40 East in Greensboro

Officers said a 31-year-old man from Burlington was trying to cross the eastbound lanes of I-40 when he was struck by a Mercedes-Benz SUV.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Police said a man is dead after a crash on I-40 East in Greensboro.

Greensboro police said they along with the Greensboro Fire Department, and Guilford County EMS responded to a crash involving a pedestrian on I-40 East near the East Lee Street exit shortly before 10 p.m. Friday.

Officers discovered a 31-year-old man from Burlington was trying to cross the eastbound lanes of I-40 when he was struck by a Mercedes-Benz SUV.

A Mazda 3 was driving behind the SUV and swerved to avoid the crash, overcorrected, left the roadway, and collided with the guardrail on the outside shoulder of the roadway.

Police said the man was declared dead at the scene from injuries from the crash.

Police said no serious injuries were reported for the drivers involved in the crash.

The Greensboro Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit responded and is investigating.
