Woman fatally hit by car while putting up yard sale signs in Greensboro

GPD is asking for help finding the vehicle involved in a deadly hit-and-run.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro police are looking for a car connected to a deadly hit-and-run on West Cone Boulevard Thursday night.

Witnesses called it a "horrific" scene. The crash happened near Dellwood Drive around 9:10 p.m.

WFMY News 2 spoke with the husband of the woman who died. The family said she was putting up signs for a yard sale when a driver hit her and took off.

The husband said the feelings of loss come in waves, and he along with his family just want answers.

GPD is asking for help finding a silver, late 2000s Toyota Corolla. The car could have front-end damage, a shattered front windshield, a possible flat tire, and a missing windshield wiper arm.

One neighbor said when he heard the crash, he walked outside to see what was going on and saw a car quickly pulling away.

Other neighbors said something needs to be done about the speeding on West Cone.

"I walk my dogs, and I never take it for granted when I am crossing Cone Boulevard that it's going to be easy, and it's scary...I don't know what it's going to take to get them to slow down," said Mary Wessling, who lives in the area.

The family said there's been an overwhelming amount of support from church members, and the community since Thursday night.
