MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Coyote sightings are nothing new to rural areas across the Carolinas. More and more people, including those in cities are seeing coyotes.
Beach towns are now strategizing are reports of coyotes are increasing along with the animal's presence.
Myrtle Beach, one of the South's most popular beach town, is getting so many reports, leaders are planning to create a coyote database. The city informed people on its Facebook page, they're now offering a Coyote Sightings Report Form on it's website.
The post states: "If you see a coyote in your neighborhood, we want to know about it. Visit the handy reporting form available on the city website under “I Want to Report…” and tell us where and when you spotted a coyote."
Part of the form asks for the specific 'Nature of the Sighting' which includes five choices: Observation, Sighting, Encounter, Incident and Attack.
Coyotes at NC Outer Banks
In Spring 2018, several NC beach towns like Nags Head had to deal with the issue of coyotes.
The town decided to hire a professional trapper to relocate the animals. Some beachgoers reported coyotes coming onto the beach while they were tanning or just hanging out with family.
