CASWELL COUNTY, N.C. — On Saturday, January 19, several volunteers and visitors were allowed back into the Conservators Center in Caswell County.
It was the first time visitors were allowed back on the property since the deadly lion attack that killed 22-year-old Alexander Black.
Officials say about 130 people showed up.
The visitors were originally scheduled for a tree toss event put on by the center that was canceled in lieu of Black's death on Dec. 30th.
One of the staff members described the mood Saturday as somber at times but also upbeat as they guided visitors on a tour of the facility.
Visitors who attended the private event Saturday stated it was important for them to visit to show support for the workers and to stand in solidarity with them as they heal from grieving their colleague.
The center is expected to reopen fully sometime in February.
