SALISBURY, N.C. (WBTV) -- Police say a Confederate memorial in downtown Salisbury was vandalized overnight.
The memorial known as "Fame" is located in the median of W. Innes Street and appeared to have paint thrown on it, WBTV News 3 reports.
Police say they are investigating.
In September 2017, an organization, Salisbury Indivisible, sent a letter to city officials requesting the statue be taken down.
The city said in a statement that officials believe a 2015 law passed by N.C. General Assembly prevents the removal of Confederate monuments without legislative approval.
