Community leaders address increase of calls at Interactive Resource Center

The Executive Director at the Interactive Resource Center explains the increase in calls over the last few months.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Leaders are addressing a call volume of over 200% to the Interactive Resource Center (IRC).

Over the last few months, they say they have seen assaults, and disturbances and received multiple complaints from business owners in the area.

It comes after the IRC moved to 24/7 operations earlier this year.

But the Executive Director, Kristina Singleton, says this isn't a problem from increasing hours but an increase in homelessness in the area.

"The increase in people experiencing homelessness in Greensboro, we've more than doubled in numbers," Singleton said. "So, with that increase in people were experiencing homelessness. We know we're going to see more people experiencing issues this is a community-wide problem."

Community leaders say the increase in calls is draining resources. They're working with the IRC to provide resources to people in the community and pushing for better safety in that area.
