Police Knock On Doors in Quest For Answers In Killing Of High Point 18-Year-Old

They're looking for leads after someone killed an 18-year-old and shot a 13-year-old at a popular park.

HIGH POINT, N.C. — The search is on to catch a killer. High Point police spent the day going door to door handing out flyers.

They're looking for leads after someone killed an 18-year-old and shot a 13-year-old at a popular park.

On Tuesday, police focused their efforts on the streets that border the park where the shooting happened, Sunday night.

They handed out flyers detailing what they know and potential descriptions of suspects. The flyers even show a picture of the young man who was killed, James Murray Junior.

It's everyone's chance to try and get answers together.

"It's our chance as the Police Department and the community to walk through the neighborhood. We delivered a flyer with just a little information on the incident and where we're at in the investigation. It's our hope the residents will know the police department and the community are aware of the violence," said Lt. B.J. MacFarland with the High Point Police Deparment.

Police believe two men came up from one of the streets along the park, and hid behind a line of trees.

They began shooting into a crowd of about 20 people playing basketball at the park. Someone also returned fire from the basketball court.

During the shooting Murray Jr. was shot and killed, and a 13-year-old was shot in the leg.

Police believe the shooting is gang related, although they don't believe the two people shot were the intended victims.

Community members who walked by the park today believe the partnership with police can help make the area safer.
