Coast Guard airlifts 85-year-old woman from cruise ship 98 miles off Cape Lookout

The United States Coast Guard said a medevac request came from the Carnival Venezia cruise ship for an 85-year-old woman who was experiencing stroke-like symptoms.

WILMINGTON, N.C. — A woman was airlifted off a cruise ship around 98 miles off Cape Lookout by the Coast Guard.

The United States Coast Guard said a medevac request came from the Carnival Venezia cruise ship Sunday for an 85-year-old woman who was experiencing stroke-like symptoms.

A Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston, South Carolina MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew then flew to the ship and took the woman to the Wilmington Airport, where EMS then took her to New Hanover Wilmington Regional Medical Center.

The Coast Guard said the cruise ship was on its way to the Bahamas.
