The student now faces assault charges.

FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — A student is in the custody of law enforcement following an alleged assault at Clemmons Middle School on Tuesday afternoon. Deputies from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said the child purposely struck another student.

According to a release, Forsyth County Sheriff's Office School Resource Officers investigated the assault and found the student had hit another student in the head with a laptop, causing injury.

Officials were then granted a Secure Custody Order on the child for one felony count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

The child is now behind held at a juvenile detention center.

“Violence has no place in our schools," Forsyth County Schools Superintendent Tricia McManus said in a statement. "This behavior is not acceptable. We will continue to set clear expectations for students and hold them accountable for their actions while also ensuring they get the help they need to better manage their anger, so aggressive behaviors are not repeated.  We will also work with parents, as they are an integral part of the change we expect to see.”
