GREENSBORO, N.C. — The ribbon has been cut, and Claxton Elementary is set to open this school year.
The $2 billion bond project to rebuild 6 GCS schools is set to reopen all of them this year. One of them is Claxton Elementary. The school got a complete rebuild, making the school better and providing it with new technological advances in the classroom.
The district said the funding comes from Triad voters through a $1.7 billion project bond. Some families say they are excited for their kids to start school in the new build.
This new school will hold 700 students and feature state-of-the-art technology with interactive display boards, and a contained waiting area.
You'll remember, Claxton Elementary students were temporarily relocated for a couple years while their new one was under construction.
Parents said they will be happy to finally drop their kids off at the school closest to them.
Juquita Marshall is a parent of students who will be attending Claxton. She said, "now it’s going to be a little easier because both of my kids start school this year.”
Melody Holwerda is another parent. She said, "it’s been a challenge, because going to a different school further away from your home at a different time than everyone else is going has pushed challenge for aftercare and all that stuff, but definitely worth it.”
This isn’t the end of it. There are still many more ribbons to cut. Guilford County Commission Chair Skip Alston said most of the other projects to rebuild the other schools are on schedule as far as opening is concerned.
