City of Greensboro provides updates on GSO2040 plan

As part of the plan, ongoing improvements are being made to stretches of Randleman Road and East Gate City Boulevard.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The City of Greensboro provided an update on its progress implementing the GSO2040 Plan on Tuesday.

Here's a look at how some of the projects related to the plan are coming along.

Randleman Road Phase 2

One project the City provided updates for Tuesday is the Randleman Road Corridor Plan. That plan is now in Phase 2, and officials are focusing on a 2-3-mile stretch of Randleman Road that runs from the I-40 interchange in the north down to the Greensboro city limits.

Phase 2 is expected to be completed this fall. The improvements are aimed at improving the traffic and transit systems on Randleman Road, as well as encouraging reinvestment from local businesses.

Plan for south Greensboro

Scheduled to continue through 2025, the City has started to implement its plan to revitalize an eight square mile stretch of land in southern Greensboro.

According to the City's website, some of the goals of the south Greensboro plan are to provide adequate parking facilities, green space and increased trail connectivity for residents, as well as more options for retail, banking and other services.

The plan could require annexations and rezoning on the southern boundary of Greensboro, but no further information on this has been provided at this time.

East Gate City Boulevard Plan

Adopted in the summer of 2024, the East Gate City Boulevard Plan has already seen some of its aspects adopted by the City.

These include:

— Planning for streetscape improvements on Willow Road.

— Designing the Douglas Park Spur project to connect to the Downtown Greenway to Douglas Park.

— Preparation for studies to make East Gate City Boulevard into a "complete street."

— Creating new neighborhood groups that meet regularly to discuss local issues.

Additional information on Greensboro's 2040 plan can be found on the City's website.
