Greensboro fire, police crews step in for recovery efforts after Helene

Multiple lines to report missing person(s) have been established for those in need.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro is expanding its relief efforts to help western NC communities recovering from Helene. This comes after there have been 46 people reported dead from Helene in North Carolina, according to CBS News. 

The Greensboro Fire Department is sending an additional 17 firefighters to the region and the Guilford Metro is handling 911 calls for six counties in the western part of the state.

The Greensboro Police Department is sending 36 officers to assist the Asheville Police Department. They are expected to be there for at least the next week. Four members of the All Terrain Vehicle team are planned to be deployed to the area.

Greensboro's Equipment Services Division is deploying one technician and a mobile service truck to provide support to the Water Resources Department for off-road equipment. There is a 500-gallon auxiliary fuel tank on the mobile service truck.

According to a release from the City of Greensboro, the Greensboro Police Department received nearly 140 calls from western counties, including Macon County, Buncombe County/Asheville, Transylvania County and Yancey County.
