More aid from Greensboro fire, police crews are being sent to western NC after Helene

Greensboro is sending additional firefighters and police officers to help with recovery efforts after Helene hit North Carolina on Friday.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro is expanding its relief efforts to help western NC communities recovering from Helene. This comes after Gov. Roy Cooper said there had been 11 deaths in North Carolina from Helene during a briefing on Sunday.

The Greensboro Fire Department is sending an additional 17 firefighters to the region and the Guilford Metro is handling 911 calls for six counties in the western part of the state.

The Greensboro Police Department is sending 36 officers to assist the Asheville Police Department. They are expected to be there for at least the next week. Four members of the All Terrain Vehicle team are planned to be deployed to the area.

Greensboro's Equipment Services Division is deploying one technician and mobile service truck to provide support to the Water Resources Department for off-road equipment. There is a 500-gallon auxiliary fuel tank on the mobile service truck.
