Christo's Restaurant damaged by fire in Lexington

Fire marshals said the building has sustained smoke and fire damage.

LEXINGTON, N.C. — A popular Lexington restaurant known for their wings has major damage following an early morning fire, according to the Lexington Fire Department.

Officials received a call about the structure fire around 4:15 a.m. Monday morning. The call concerned the Original Christo's restaurant off Highway 8 on 1718 Cotton Grove Rd.

When fire crews got there, they noticed heavy smoke coming from the back of the restaurant. The smoke led firefighters to call for a second alarm.

After the fire was extinguished, firefighters determined the building had moderate fire and heat damage with major smoke damage.

Regulars were shocked to learn about the fire and sad to hear of the damage.

Restaurant goer, Jason Goins recalled a fond memory that took place there.

"This was last year. We had a very good friend of ours he had passed away from an accident and we all gathered there. There was probably over 100 people that showed up there and it was huge. He touched a lot of lives and that was the hangout, that was his place to go to," said Joins.

Goins said he used to live four miles from the restaurant. He remembers watching a lot of football there while enjoying a popular menu item, wings. Goins is sending his thoughts and prayers out to restaurant owners and staff.

At this time, we do not know how the fire started. The Lexington Fire Marshall's Office is investigating. We also do not know when the Highway 8 location will re-open. The Original Christo's Restaurant location on 1500 S Main St. remains open for business.

Thankfully, no firefighters or civilians were injured in the fire. Highway 8 was closed for a few hours but is reopened.
