GREENSBORO, N.C. -- What started as a children's book to help kids cope with a family member having cancer has now turned into a non-profit organization that will provide financial support for those children.
Creator of the organization 'Kids Wear Pink Too' and author of the books Kids Wear Pink Too and My Beautiful Mommy Jen-Ai Childress says her inspiration came from a close friend battling stage-four breast cancer, and in watching how her friend's young daughter copes with her mother's cancer.
Jen-Ai's book 'Kids Wear Pink Too' has a space at the end where kids can draw a picture of someone they love who 'wears pink' or is battling some type of cancer.
"It's really a keepsake because at the end of the book children are able to write and draw pictures of why they love someone who wears pink," said Jen-Ai, "It's just a way for kids to really express themselves."
Jen-Ai says the Kids Wear Pink Too team has sold over 300 books so far by word-of-mouth and social media. The profits will assist the needs of children whose parent(s) are battling cancer.
"What we want to do is support these families, do events with these families, and reach out to the community, and be able to give back," said Jen-Ai.
