RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — Chaplain Dwight Ayers with the Randolph County Sheriff's Office (RCSO) died at 4:45 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, the department announced on Facebook.
Ayers had served with the RCSO for 28 years.
He volunteered his time with other law enforcement agencies and fire departments including Moore County Sheriff's Offices, the Ramseur, Liberty, Randleman and Carthage Police Departments, the Carthage and Franklinville Fire Departments, Randolph County Emergency Services, and the North Carolina Highway Patrol, his obituary said.
Ayers also was the chaplain for the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary 107th Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol in Asheboro and ministered to the Alpine Health and Rehabilitation Center residents from 1976 until 2020, according to his obituary.
"This community and the law enforcement agencies across the county will miss him greatly. Please keep his family, friends, and law enforcement families in your prayers," wrote the RCSO in a Facebook post.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, at Balfour Baptist Church, in Asheboro.
