NORTH CAROLINA, USA — A group of first responders visited with two local families, mourning fallen loved ones.

The Carolina Brotherhood met with the families of Greensboro Police Sergeant Dale Nix and Lexington Fire Captain Ronnie Metcalf Thursday.

The group spoke to Nix's wife at the gas station where he was murdered.

Several of Nix’s former colleagues were there too.

Nix died last December when he tried to stop a theft at a Sheetz in Colfax.

A Sheetz employee told the group that Nix was like a father to them.

In Lexington, the group spoke with firefighters and Metcalf's family.

He died from his injuries after responding to a building fire in March.

The group took a moment to pray together.

The Carolina Brotherhood is a nonprofit made up of first responders and their families.

It travels by bike around the Carolinas meeting with the families of fallen heroes.

The group provides emotional support and financial assistance when necessary.
