PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) -- About 70 cargo containers fell off of a cargo ship Saturday night about 17 miles off Oregon Inlet in North Carolina. Now, the Coast Guard is warning mariners of the hazards the containers may cause.
The containers fell off as a result of high winds and heavy seas.
Officials notified watchstanders at Sector North Carolina's command center.
Mariners are urged to move through the area with caution.
