HIGH POINT, NC -- A driver slammed on its breaks to avoid hitting geese and caused a four-car accident in High Point Tuesday morning.

High Point Police said that the crash happened on Eastchester road near Plainview drive around 8:45 a.m.

When stopping for the flock of geese to cross the road, the car waiting was rear-ended by a pickup truck which caused a chain reaction. Officials say that one car flipped two times and landed on top of another car.

Police say that only two people have minor injuries.

Eastchester Drive was closed for over an hour while the accident was getting cleared.

According to the dmv.org here are some statistics to consider before swerving out of the way of an animal.

  • A collision with some form of wildlife occurs, on average, every 39 minutes.
  • 1 out of every 17 car collisions involves wandering wildlife.
  • 89% of all wildlife collisions occur on roads with 2 lanes.
  • 84% of all wildlife collisions occur in good weather on dry roads.
  • The average repair cost of a car-deer collision is $2,800.
  • Approximately 200 motorists die in the United States each year from car-wildlife collisions.

Dmv.org suggests that if you see any animals on the road try to slowly hit the brakes and honk the horn.
