Camp Carefree in North Carolina serves kids with chronic conditions: How you can help

The camp in Stokesdale, NC has been operating for 38 summers.

STOKESDALE, N.C. — Summer camp. It's a rite of passage. But all too often, kids with chronic illnesses miss out. Camp Carefree in Stokesdale, NC is helping to change that.

For 38 summers, Camp Carefree has been dedicated to giving traditional camp experiences to kids with chronic conditions, for free! At capacity, the camp can serve up to 400 campers during the six weeks the camp is in operation. Right now, as the camp continues to build its numbers after COVID-19, there will be about 200 campers.

Every week the camp serves a different population of kids, from those who are dealing with an illness themselves, to kids who live in a home with a sibling or a parent that has a chronic illness.  Check out the calendar. Right now there are spots available for campers for cancer week (June 30-July 5), Kids week (July 14-19), and for Hemophilia/Turner Syndrome (July 21-26).
