Caesars Virginia hiring event in Browns Summit brings in hundreds

The casino and resort expects to fill around 700 positions.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Caesars Virginia wants to hire people right here in our area to come work at the new casino.

The Casino and Resort hosted a hiring event Tuesday in Browns Summit where nearly 200 people showed up.

The casino shell went up quickly and is still on track to open later this year in Danville, Virginia.

There's still plenty of work to be done inside the building.

The company expects to fill around 700 positions - including security, hospitality, and card dealers.

The event didn't disappoint with lots of locals hoping to secure a unique job.

Jazz Smith-Gray attended the event with her husband where they both hoped for a new opportunity.

"I wanted to come and give it a try for Caesars of Virginia. I'm a people's person, and I heard that this is a big personality place. So I thought that I'd come give it a shot. I've been a stay at home mom for years, and I'm ready to jump back out there. So, I thought that this will be the great opportunity for me," Smith-Gray said.

Her husband, Malcolm Gray also spoke with us saying, "There's hospitality, there's security, there's millions of different ways, and it's an option for people to really get their toes wet a little bit, and see if this is something that they like. I think it's good for people to try to branch out or vice versa, you know. I just think it's really good, and I think it's gonna do good things for Virginia."

Caesars Virginia said since it opened the temporary casino last May, the temporary casino has employed 458 team members and promoted 110 of those to supervisor positions.

The company and attendees said events like this really bring the community out and give them opportunities.

Youshique Gilbert, Director of Human Resources for Caesars Virginia said, "We believe in local progression as far as in terms of our local candidates have an opportunity to work with us. So no one wants to just bring people from out of state or different places to come and work for a company. We wanna show that our local team members get first any positions we have available. You know, we have a lot of benefits that is available to them. So it's a good opportunity for them to join our team."

Lauren Maree also attended the event Tuesday saying, "I think hiring events are important. I'm a very social person. So I love to get out and talk to people and that pretty much puts me in the forefront to find employment because I can get my face and name out there."

If you missed out on the hiring event on Tuesday, there will be another one in two weeks.

It's from 10 to 3 on August 26th - at the Greensboro Coliseum.
