DANVILLE, Va. — Crews are hard at work transforming a massive pile of dirt into a brand-new casino.
Across town, managers with Caesars Virginia spent Thursday, working to fill hundreds of jobs.
Positions they will need to fill before opening a temporary casino this summer.
That temporary location will sit just feet from where the permanent location will be.
Unexpected issues with the property and supply chain shortages have delayed the opening of the resort by more than a year.
Averett University in Danville was home to Thursday's hiring event.
Caesars Virginia is looking to fill more than 400 positions, including gaming dealers, security, IT, and finance.
Chris Albrecht is a General Manager for Caesars Virginia.
He says they’ve hired a lot of local people but are also turning to the Triad for qualified talent.
"We’ve been in Caswell County, we’ve been in Greensboro, we went with the Chambers, we met with a lot of the colleges and universities that are ready. So we are looking for talented individuals not just here in Danville, but from the entire region of Virginia surrounding us here in Virginia and North Carolina region," said Albrecht.
The casino is a more than a half-billion dollar investment for Danville, the Piedmont is also cashing in.
Cities like Reidsville, Yanceyville, and Greensboro are all less than an hour away.
Albrecht says many of his current employees are working in Danville but live in Greensboro.
Just one more reason they plan to focus more of their attention on the Triad.
"We’ve been looking at opportunities on the North Carolina state is well with smaller events and the chambers of commerce and things like that so we will continue to both small and large events to really help build this team out," said Albrecht.
Once completed this casino will need more than 1300 employees.
Albrecht says it will be an ongoing process to fill all of those positions leading up to the official opening late next year.
