Burned Body Found On NC Roadside Identified; Arrests Made In Case

ALISBURY, N.C. – Rowan County Sheriff’s investigators say they've identified the woman whose body was found burning on side of the road and arrested two people in connection to the crime.

SALISBURY, N.C. – Rowan County Sheriff’s investigators say they've identified the woman whose body was found burning on side of the road and arrested two people in connection to the crime.

Around 6:30 Friday morning, investigators found the burning body of 33-year-old Amanda Kay Smith that had been dumped along the side of the 3000 block of Leonard Road.

Monday the sheriff's office said they also responded to a house fire Friday in the 200 bock of Honeysuckle Lane in Salisbury, which turned out to be the victim's house.

The fire was ruled as arson. Investigators developed two suspects in the Smith's death and the burning of her house. Timothy Smith, Jr. and Stephanie Hall were located and arrested in South Carolina near Myrtle Beach.

Both are being held in the Horry County Jail facing charges of: Robbery, 2nd Degree Arson and 1st Degree Murder. The sheriff's office said Smith and Hall will be returned to Rowan County to be charged.

Goldie Compton who lives in the area where Amanda Smith's body was found told WCNC “We were quite shocked.”

Compton and her husband have lived on Leonard Road for 20 years and have never seen anything like the scene that played out there Friday.
