BURLINGTON, N.C. — A fire at a home on Longview Street in Burlington on Tuesday morning resulted in the deaths of three family dogs and hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage to the residence.
According to the Burlington Fire Department, crews responded at 9:17 a.m. on Tuesday after neighbors called 911 reporting smoke coming from the home. The first firefighters were on scene in under two minutes and began conducting searches of the residence.
While searching for occupants in the home, firefighters found and removed three family dogs from the home. Despite resuscitation efforts, all three dogs died from what officials believe was probably smoke inhalation.
There were no other occupants in the home, and the fire was under control in 20 minutes, according to the fire department.
The fire department determined that the fire originated in the clothes dryer. Damage estimates are $200,000 to the home and $50,000 to the residence's contents.
