Burlington City Activates 13 Live Traffic Cameras

The public canview these live traffic cameras 24 hours a day, seven days a week on the city's website.

city's website. Most of the traffic cameras have been in use by the city since 2002. The feed from the cameras provides the City's Traffic Division with the capacity to monitor traffic congestion in order to manipulate traffic signals where necessary. Providing public access to the camera feeds is now possible as a result of cooperation between the City of Burlington and the NCDOT. NCDOT provided 80% of the funds necessary to transmit the camera feeds digitally, over IP. This will allow NCDOT to eventually include feeds from Burlington's traffic cameras on the NCDOT online state traffic monitoring map.City Traffic Engineer, Chris Clow, says that he is "very pleased with the system and we hope the public is too." He also adds that through the assistance of the City's Information Technology Department "the site is very secure and protected."
