GREENSBORO, N.C.-- The Greensboro Mural Project is a local organization with a mission to bring the community together through art.
You may have seen their work while driving around the city.
The Greensboro Mural Project has been around for the last 7 years. They have installations near the Interactive Resource Center, the Children's museum, and on Friendly Ave. among others.
They are all done by local artists along with members of the community.
But it is the mural called, "Tough Love" across from the bus depot downtown that stands apart from the rest.
The 86 -by- 24 foot mural is their biggest project to date and is a visual representation of how the community feels about Greensboro.
They initially asked people for love letters about the city and were surprised by the response.
"We thought I will be flowery but it was a lot more complicated there are a lot more of fraughtness like, 'Yeah the city is not perfect and there's ways that it can change,' and we want to honor that." Alizza May co-founder of the Greensboro Mural Project said.
The wall took seven months to complete and was finished back in February. But it will soon have to come down.
In the middle of the project, the group was told the building was going to be demolished, but they got a little extra time.
Thanks to a petition signed by more than 600 people, the building's owners decided to tear down the building in September.
Despite the short-lived mural, the group says they still plan to create art in the community.
"I think that as long as the people of Greensboro and the artist in Greensboro are creating and coming together that's the most important part."
