GREENSBORO, N.C. — Workers lifted the statue of former Chief Justice Henry Frye and his wife Shirley Wednesday.

The statue in Center City Park commemorates their decades of service.

Henry Frye was the first Black Supreme Court Chief Justice in North Carolina.

His wife Shirley Frye worked for several community groups and even worked here at WFMY News 2.

Mrs. Frye said she hopes the statue will be a positive reminder to those passing by.

Shirley Frye said it's always been about their love and working together.

The statue will remain covered until next Tuesday when local leaders will hold an unveiling ceremony.
