COVINGTON, Ga. — Cereal maker General Mills has been accused of racial discrimination by some of its metro Atlanta employees, according to a federal lawsuit filed this week.
According to the lawsuit, eight Black employees at a factory in Covington accuse management of favoring white employees for promotions.
They also allege managers issued more disciplinary actions against Black workers and used racist terms.
The lawsuit alleges the factory's Human Resources has ignored the incidents of racism, and those who did complain were retaliated against.
The incidents listed in the complaint span the course of over two decades.
General Mills would not comment on pending litigation, but the company said in a statement to CNN that it does not tolerate discrimination of any kind.
The plaintiffs want compensation and punitive damages for hundreds of Black employees who have worked at the plant.
They are seeking a trial by jury.
