DUCK, N.C. (WVEC) -- It's not just humans who want to enjoy a day at the beach.
A picture posted on Twitter by the Duck Police Department appears to show a black bear walking along the Outer Banks town's shoreline! Sightings of the bear were reported Thursday morning north of the research pier, and only along the east side of Duck.
Police are monitoring the area, and are hopeful the bear has returned to a more suitable habitat.
In a Facebook post, town officials encourage residents and visitors to keep children and pets closely supervised or inside, and to make sure trash is secured and completely inside trash cans.
You can report bear sightings by calling Dare County Dispatch at 252-473-3444. Officials urge that you do not approach the animal.
