GREENSBORO, N.C. — Bennett College has announced it has received two major donations in one day thanks to generous donors.
Maurice "Mo" Green with the Z. Smith Foundation announced it has donated $500,000 to the college.
Earlier on Thursday, Papa John's Pizza CEO, Steve Ritchie announced it would also give $500,000.
The college is now one step closer to reaching their financial goal of raising $5 million by the February 1 deadline.
Bennett College has to raise a minimum of $5 million by February 1 to try to remain accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
By our count, Bennett College still has quite a way to go, but has raised more than $2 million at this time.
In the past couple of weeks, Bennett has received a $40,000 donation from Mt. Zion Baptist Church, among a few other large donations.
Bennett was founded in 1873 and became women's only in 1926. They are one of two all-women's Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the country.
You can donate to Bennett College through the Stand With Bennett.
