ASHEBORO, N.C. — Asheboro residents may notice a change in how their water tastes starting next month.

The City of Asheboro said it will start using free chlorine as the main disinfection treatment beginning Aug. 1.

The change will last several weeks, switching back to regular chloramine treatments afterward.

According to a statement, the change is "necessary to ensure optimum water quality." The City warns that resident may notice a slight chlorine taste or smell in their water as they begin the changes in treatment.

The City warns that those who use its water for drinking purposes or kidney dialysis may need to make adjustments as the chlorine changes the water.
